Queyras, France

Queyras has the largest Nordic skiing area in the Hautes Alpes and offers 150 kms of cross country skiing in all four of its valleys, three of which are linked by prepared trails. The valleys are:



If you love high and breathtaking mountain landscapes, then go up to Col d'Izoard (Arvieux) or Col Angel (Molines). If you prefer the valley bottoms with their larch forests and villages, then follow the valley of the Haut-Guil (from Château-Queyras to Ristolas) or the Valle of Le Mélèzet (Ceillac), or go up to Lac de Roue (Arvieux).

Getting to Queyras by Air

Fly to Grenoble or Marseille. Onward transfer can be by bus from Marseille airport directly to Gap. The journey by the booked via the ZOU website

Transfer from the airport

From Grenoble you can get the shuttle to the train station and then the train to Gap.


From Gap to the different domains, there are local buses via the ZOU website or you can use taxis or hire a car.


From Marseille and Aix-en-Provence you can get the bus or train to Gap via the ZOU website. From Grenoble you can get the train to Gap.

Getting to Queyras by Train

There is an overnight sleeper train from Paris directly to Gap.


And also a TGV to Grenoble or Aix-En-Provence or Marseille and either bus, train or hire car from there to Gap.



The best TGV connection from Paris to Gap is via Valence - TGV to Valence and then TER train from Valence to Gap.

Vallée des Aigues (Molines-en-Queyras, Saint-Véran)

In the valley of Les Aigues, in Molines-en-Queyras, there are 30 kms of Nordic ski trails ranging from green to black in level of difficulty and  for either skating or classical technique. Or you can simply ski on the loops in the valley bottom, allowing you to improve your technique.

  • Refuge de la Blanche/Refuge Agnel

    You can travel on prepared trails to the Refuge de la Blanche or the Refuge Agnel, where you can have lunch in a cozy atmosphere. You could even climb to the Col d' Izoard, passing the magnificent Casse Déserte on the way before arriving at the Refuge Napoleon (see the Arvieux cross country ski  map). 


    Start from Molines (1,756m) or Saint-Véran (2,042m): take the valley of the Aigue Agnelle up to the Col Agnel (2,744m)

    Col Agnel links the Queyras to Val Varaita in Italy. It is flanked by the Pain de Sucre (3208m) and the Punta dell’Alp (3033m). It is the second highest French road col after the Col d’Iseran, having been built in 1970. The Refuge Napoléon, built at the end of the 19th century to shelter travellers, was swept away by an avalanche.

  • Valley of the Aigue Blanche

    The valley of the Aigue Blanche goes up to the Refuge de la Blanche (2500 m), through the Combe de Clausis. Aigue Blanche, the river which flows past Saint-Véran, rises in Lac de la Blanche. The Refuge de la Blanche is nearby. The lake, which is overlooked by the Tête des Toilies (3,175m) and Rocca Bianca (3,059m).

  • Aiguilles

    You can also go down to Aiguilles (1,450m) and link up with the ski-trails of the Haut-Guil (see cross country ski map). In the Haut-Guil there are 30 kilometres of Nordic ski-trails, of varying levels of difficulty, following the river Guil.

  • Vallée du Haut-Guil (Château-Ville-Vieille, Aiguilles-en-Queyras, Abriès, Ristolas)

    Vallée du Cristillan (Ceillac)

    Ceillac is a charming high mountain village with a very varied landscape with open forests, 4 high altitude lakes and sunny areas dominated by fierce summits. There are 9 Nordic tracks of 36 kms waiting for you. (See the cross country ski map above).

    Vallée de l'Izoard (Arvieux)

    • Col de L'Izoard

      Starting from Brunissard, go up to Col d'Izoard, passing the unusual rocky landscape of Casse déserte- wild and beautiful in both winter and summer

      The Col d’Izoard, between Clot la Cîme and Côte-Belle, is a cyclists favourite. It links the Queyras with the Briançon region of the Hautes-Alpes. Very busy in summer, it is closed from November to May. In winter its southern approaches from Arvieux are transformed into  cross country ski tracks.

      Starting from La Chalp, go up to Lac de Roue and beyond it, the hamlet of Souliers
