Filzmoos, Austria

At an altitude of 1600 metres Filzmoos has fabulous panoramic views and is well worth a day's visit whilst staying in Ramsau am Dachstein. Whilst you'll see a lot of downhillers once up on the plateau, and on the xc tracks you'll be in beautiful scenery, which is stunning after snowfall.

Getting there from Ramsau

If you are in a group of 4-8 it could be cost effective to book a taxi. Hubner are a very good local company.


Since 2022 there is a direct bus from Ramsau Ort which is the easiest way. I hear that if there are a lot of people then you can phone the bus company so they make sure there is enough room for everyone.

Filzmoos Gondola

Once at Filzmoos you'll need to take the 6 seater gondola to Rossbrand up to the high ridge.


Current gondola prices.  When you come out of the gondola there is a large restaurant to the left, and the cross country trails start to the right of the mountain station.  There is a route map at the start. Don't turn to the left otherwise you'll be on the downhill slope!


Make sure you check the times of the last gondola down to gauge your return descent and taxi booking.

Filzmoos High Level Rossbrand Cross Country Ski Routes
  • Rossbrand 12km Blue

    Start at the Papagenobahn mountan station and take the trail to the right. This is an easy ascent, but it probably best taken from the top back down. Take the other Red route up which gives the best high plateau panoramic views.


    There are refreshments at the Skihütte Schörgi Alm, Karhütte and Radstädter Hütte.

  • Rossbrand 12km Red

    Start at the Papagenobahn mountan station and take the trail to the right. Choose the red route to ascend as this will given you the best high plateau panoramic views.  You pass the radio tower and trail through the forest moderately uphill to the Radstädter hut and the summit cross, and another  panorama.


    Return the same way, or take the blue route to descend and see other scenery.


    There are refreshments at the Skihütte Schörgi Alm, Karhütte and Radstädter Hütte.
