Geilo (pronounced yay-low) is situated close to the Hardangervidda, a great area for cross country skiing, and the largest mountain plateau in Northern Europe. It boasts a 500km network of groomed cross country trails ranging from beginner-friendly lakeside routes to long-distance tracks through the mountain wilderness. Ungroomed trails extend your options even further. The resort centre is compact and walkable, with free ski bus network and a train connection to Oslo. Ski season runs from October to May, with plenty of cross-country options, especially if you have a vehicle, with the higher mountain areas are skiable until June.
