Pyhä - Luosto, Finland

Pyhä (pronounced Poo Ha) is a cross country ski area situated just inside Artic Circle. There are 150 kilometres of ski trails in Pyhä-Luosto some of which go through the Pyhä-Luosto National Park and the trails of Luosto and Pyhä are connected. 

Getting to Pyhä by Air

Rovaniemi is the nearest airport and then it's a 1h 45 min drive to Pyhä. Airlines are Finnair and Norwegian.

From Kuusao Airport it is 2hrs 20 mins and Finnair is the operator.

From Kittilä it is 155K, takes around 2 hours and the airlines are Finnair and Norwegian.

Transfer to Pyhä by Bus

There is a good ski bus connection from Rovaniemi airport and train stations. In high season the bus departs 4 times and day and in low season twice. Here is the timetable.   For the station you can  buy bus tickets 15 hours before the connection at Matkahuolto online shop. For Kemijärvi the bus timetable is here.

Transfer to Pyhä by train

The nearest train stations are at Rovaniemi and Kemijärvi.


Travelling from Southern Finland takes around 10 - 12 hours. You can check the timetables and buy tickets at www.vr.fi.

Taxis

There are limited  taxis in the Pyhä area so it's  best to book  transfers beforehand and agree the price.


Ski bus information/timetable

The ski bus travels beween Lusto and Pyhä as well as serving the connections to the airports and train stations. Here is the Lusto - Pyhä ski bus timetable .  The price is €7 one way between Lusto and Pyhä for your return journey if you ski one way.

Cross Country Ski Tracks and Routes

The trails of Luosto and Pyhä are connected and the distance between them is 35 kilometres one way, so you can use the ski bus to return. There are cafés and other resting places at suitable intervals along the way.

There are 14K of lit track in Pyhä and 14K in Luosto. Lights turn on around 07:00 and dim at 21:00 in 10 minute periods then at 21:30 the lights go out for the night.

You can check the current situation on the ski trail tracking system. The whole capacity of ski tracks in the Pyhä - Luosto area are usually in use from week 8.
