Cross Country Ski Clubs

Cross Country Ski Clubs in the UK (geographical order from Southern England)

Established in 2006 as the 'Rollerski Club' to offer regular training to skiers who have completed rollerski.co.uk courses. Affiliated to Snowsport England since October 2008 as the 'London Hyde Park Cross-Country Ski Club', they provide r egular training and racing opportunities to roller skiers and cross country skiers in London.

The club has a racing team which takes part in UK-wide roller ski races and is represented in on-snow cross-country ski races in the winter.

London Region Nordic Ski Club

Founded in 1982, the club has on snow trips with instruction, races and tours, and roller ski courses and races. Membership covers the London region , as well as the UK, Europe and beyond.

The club meet at the Hillingdon Cycle Circuit, UB4 0LP for summer roller ski training and is the host of the southern area GB Series Roller ski races.

There is also a Cambridge branch who meet at Longstanton, near St Ives on the Cambridge busway.

Members of several clubs meet on a Tuesday morning at The Redbridge Cycle Circuit for  informal practise and training.

Take a look at the trips page for on-snow activities with other XC Skiers.

The club was founded in February 2006 to provide a focus for the biathletes and Nordic skiers of the South West of England. The aim of the club is the develop the sport of biathlon in both summer and winter formats and introduce members to rifle shooting, cross-country skiing and roller skiing; eventually combining the disciplines to produce biathletes.  The club aims to develop athletes to compete in inter-club races, national and international championships. Summer activities of the club are held in and around the counties of Wiltshire, North Somerset and Gloucestershire. The club uses the cycle track at Odd Down, Bath for training (Chelwood Drive, Bath BA2 2PR - Cycle Track - the track can be booked on an hourly basis). Most biathletes and skiers accept that travel becomes an integral part of pursuing the sport but we try to provide training with like-minded people as close to home as possible. Winter training will be both in the UK and overseas (if sufficient interest) at suitable cross-country and biathlon centres. The club can provide rifle shooting coaching at pre-arranged range sessions using .22 biathlon rifles and laser biathlon rifles.  The club welcomes new members of any age who have an interest in the sport of biathlon, cross-country skiing and/or roller skiing. North Wales roller skiing club

South Wales Roller Skiing

There used to be a group in South Wales who met at different locations to roller ski. However, this Facebook group seems to have disappeared of late. Snow Sport Wales has "information coming soon" in their Nordic section. Some informal get together's do occur at Pembrey Country Park, but no formal club exists. I will update this when I get to hear more.

North Wales roller skiing club

North Wales Roller Skiing Club

An informal club set up to introduce and develop rollerskiing in North Wales, they are a section of the North Wales Snowsports club. Supported by the Gwynedd Community Chest and Postcode Community Trust, they organise social events and have trained their first cohort of instructors so that they can offer tasters and taught sessions to all. Anyone is welcome to the taster sessions which are advertised on the Facebook page. New members  are welcome - whether a complete novice or more experienced.

This Alpine club was founded in 1965 but it's Nordic section  was disbanded a few years ago.  Since the interest shown at National Ski Shows since 2019, there are now plans  to reinstate the Nordic section of the club.  Two instructors are currently undertaking  roller sk coaching and we hope that they will qualify next year..

Watch this space for updates on how Nigel Street and David Beech are progressing. And if you're heading to the Birmingham NEC Ski show on 14/15 October 2023, you will find them either on the Midland club stand I46 or the Roller Ski taster sessions at G84.

Founded in January 1984 in Altrincham as a focus for people with an interest in cross country skiing, MCCSC is now a multidiscipline Nordic club for Cross country, Roller and Telemark skiers in and around Manchester and Preston, UK. Join in the fun with fellow free‑heelers in the North West of England and develop with coaching for members. MCCSC is proud of the strength and depth of its coaches and being one of the largest Cross Country clubs and the largest civilian Telemark club in England. Their common aim is to share and enjoy free‑heel skiing, bringing like-minded people together to ski, whether it be on a cycle track, road, indoor ski slope or the mountains. Mel at MCCSC.

Touring, racing and roller skiing in the Lake District, Pennines, Scotland and further afield since 1977. For the other 364 no-snow days of the year they roller ski.

YDCCSC take part in on-snow skiing with annual club holidays, run 3 weekly roller ski sessions a week, and hold many social events through out the year. These include roller ski tours, walks, bike rides, canoe trips, meals out and more.
Their aim is to promote cross country skiing and roller skiing as sporting and recreational activities for people of all ages and abilities, including complete beginners in the Yorkshire Dales area. They offer regular roller ski practice sessions, equipment hire and tuition by club members who are qualified SSE Instructors. They also head out on roller ski tours throughout the summer in Yorkshire and across the UK. It is a great opportunity to join up with other cross country ski clubs too. If you feel the need for speed and fancy getting competitive, there is a full and challenging roller ski race calendar. You can also qualify for the Snowsport England Nordic Proficiency Awards.

Founded in 1982, covering mainly Northumberland, Durham and Tyne and Wear, they're members are active in all forms of nordic (free-heel) skiing, and some members ski in the summer months using roller skis. There are usually a few days when skiing is possible in the North Pennines or the Cheviots or a little further away in the Lake District. The club also organises foreign holidays or short breaks abroad. Typical trips include telemark skiing in the French Alps, track-skiing and nordic-touring in Norway and telemark touring in the Silvretta Alps of Austria and Switzerland. They have creatively reused the Norwegian word ‘loipe‘  meaning ‘a cross-country ski trail constructed and maintained for cross country skiing‘ and the name has stuck as they are commonly referred to by the other clubs as ‘The Loipers’.

Glasgow Ski Touring Club

Glasgow Ski Touring Club

Founded as Glasgow Nordic Ski Club in 1984 we are a small and friendly club based around Glasgow, but with members across Scotland. We aim to bring together like-minded people and help them get out on the hills and trails with skiing companions to suit. We welcome all kinds of free-heel skiers from track skiers to mountain tourers, telemarkers and ski-mountaineers. Our name change took place to include this wider interest. We encourage all ranges of ability from beginners to advanced.

We have a regular programme of winter weekend meets, mostly around the Cairngorm area, and usually in mountaineering club huts or in hostels.

In the variable Scottish climate we ski according to snow and weather conditions, often in small groups rather than all together. If there’s bad weather or no snow we generally go for walks or take bikes. Occasional day trips are organised at short notice more locally if the conditions are good, using local hills, parks or even golf courses.

We have a full programme of summer trips with longer visits to west coast islands and hill-walking areas as well as day cycling trips.

Groups of club members often arrange ski trips abroad – Norway, Finland and Austria are regular destinations. Social events occur throughout the year, with sessions at the Sno-zone artificial slope at Braehead, slide shows, barbecues and parties.

We have one BASI instructor in the club who is qualified to teach Level One Telemark and Level Two Alpine. Another member is a very enthusiastic and successful cross-country competitor, regularly travelling to international events.
